At the beginning of October, another prefabricated CONTRACK rail-road structure was installed at the Poznań tram depot on Forteczna Street.

This time, large-size concrete slabs with a single-track, single, curved turnout were installed at the Poznań depot. The entire operation took 48 hours, during which:

  • the prefabricated elements were unloaded and precisely laid;
  • the slabs were secured and poured with self-flowing, quick-setting cement mortar;
  • the steel parts of the turnout were set and welded;
  • the turnout with equipment was installed in prefabricated slabs;
  • the rail channels were filled with material for continuous, elastic fastening of the rails.

All the work was organized so that there was no need to remove and re-hang the traction network - e.g. using a specially selected HDS crane.

This was the second implementation on Forteczna Street. Earlier, in December 2023, two single-track turnouts were installed, together creating a single track connection system. This is proof that the installation of high-quality, durable large-size prefabricated elements in such locations, enabling quick installation and replacement, makes perfect sense, as it allows for the rapid restoration of tram and car traffic. This is of great importance for the technical facilities that serve the technical preparation and efficient dispatch of rolling stock, especially trams, to the routes.

So far, CONTRACK's "tailor-made" prefabricated elements have been used in Bytom, Ruda Śląska, Kraków (the first rail-road crossing), Mysłowice and twice in Poznań. Large-size prefabricated elements are always installed where the quick and reliable restoration of rail and/or road traffic is of particular importance to the local community, the manager of the road and tram network and public transport carriers.
