Innovative technology for production, logistics, installation and replacement of key components of tram permanent ways was presented at the 2023 TRAKO International Railway Fair. Reinforced concrete slabs dedicated for a single-track single turnout; integrated steel switch part along with a drive; the logistic modules of the PWP gantries – all this aroused enormous interest, not only among representatives of tram network managers.

“Our main goal was to demonstrate to the entire industry that prefabrication of the most complex track system components is already possible and available in the market. Switches, junctions, non-standard crossings and curves integrated with the road system have so far posed investment and maintenance challenges. This was mainly about construction duration and its impact on the city’s functioning, but also about the costs calculated over the entire product life cycle. It was precisely for these reasons that key tram investments either caused significant traffic congestions that spread over many months or were postponed and replaced by constant repairs and operational restrictions in the form of reducing tram speeds,” Grzegorz Leszczyński, President and leader of the CONTRACK project at KZN Bieżanów Group, said repeatedly, as he was presenting the exhibited product. “Today, this problem no longer exists! We have the technology allowing for prefabricating key tram infrastructure components and installing them in just a few days, ultimately over the weekend. We have the technology allowing for maintenance and repairs of all components of such a prefabricate – from the heater, power cables, switch drive to the entire steel part of the turnout; and, if worn out, complete replacement is also possible in 72 hours. This technology is called CONTRACK!” added Leszczyński enthusiastically.
Keen interest in this solution was evident among the visitors to the products’ display stand. Representatives of infrastructure managers were also convinced by the fact that they were not dealing with a prototype but a finished product, whose twin brother had already been installed in the track owned by Tramwaje Śląskie in Bytom. They were also persuaded by the high quality of workmanship and the comprehensiveness of the technology that includes, apart from production, all the construction, logistics, maintenance and replacement processes for CONTRACK prefabricates. Fair meetings will give birth to interesting projects to be completed in several Polish cities.
